31.7.1997. Analysis of July 1997 in Euskal Herria.

THE "JULIAZO". IN JULY 1997 THE SPANISH GOVERNMENT ORGANISED AGAINST THE BASQUE LEFT NATIONALIST MOVEMENT THE BIGGEST FASCIST MOBILISATION KNOWN IN EUROPE SINCE THE EXTINCTION OF NAZI GERMANY.

      12. EL MUNDO, following what EL PAIS began, got also involved in Spanish cyberterrorism, by the fascist attack to freedom of speech Spanish «pacifists» made on the US node of APC (Association for Progress in Communications).

On the 14th «The Navigator’s Daily» of the electronic edition of EL MUNDO published an article signed by Mario Tascon entitled «Roses @)--’-- and «sad faces» :(( for Miguel Angel in Internet» which SEEMED to be an aseptic account of the reactions raised in Internet after the death of the PP councillor. But that asepsy was refuted by the fact that they gave the URL of EUSKAL HERRIA JOURNAL website (sited on the IGC’s server, the US member of APC). According to what they «informed», hundreds of navigators were trying to block this website, unsuccessfully though. Miguel Angel Diez Ferreira, contributor to iWorld magazine with an extensive article entitled «Spanish navigators unite against ETA», that I read on the 17th but was updated everyday, informed extensively about all the websites, IRCs and chats against ETA and HB.

But it was EL PAIS who led the «democratic» attempt to silence by force the voice of a colleague. On Tuesday 15 both its electronic and its paper editions (page 24) published an article (whose authorship appeared as follows: EL PAIS, Madrid) entitled «The navigators mobilise against ETA». Where not only was informed that they published in the LETTERS section of their digital edition all the letters received condemning Miguel Angel’s death in the electronic mailboxes of EL PAIS DIGITAL (I copied an read their bunch of misery, hatred and misinformation). In this article EL PAIS also warned that there was a mail-bombing on the move intended to block the website of EUSKAL HERRIA JOURNAL and other websites of the like and they gave not only the URLs but also the e-mail addresses of IGC team.

EL MUNDO too got mixed in this fascist campaign against freedom of speech. They could have criticised it like the reputable journalist specialist in Internet Luis Angel Fernandez Hermana did, by devoting to the topic his weekly reflection on the life in the electronic webs -en.red.ando of July 22nd with the meaningful title of «Censor’s Apprentices». But EL MUNDO not only did not criticise it but on Sunday 20 they devoted three out of the 4 pages of their Sunday supplement SU ORDENADOR to promote the campaign. Under the title «The net is human», signed by R. Infante and A. de las Fuentes, the extensive report «reveals» according to the title «how much the net has ‘regretted’ and ‘mourned’ the death of the PP councillor». And, besides, incited people to the fascist mail-bombing.

As sentences like the following prove: «The problem would be that vacations deflated us, and that this all ends up just in a speech of purposes. Internet doesn’t want it to happen». And above all, the final column on last page, entitled «ETA’s refugee» finished like follows: «The aim, however difficult it is, is to block the address and hinder them from broadcasting this material related to the terrorist gang». And to finish, as last instruction, the URLs of four websites (three of them from IGC).

Curiously, the following day there was an article entitled «War games» in the electronic edition totally critical towards the campaign. It seems that in EL MUNDO the fascists are those «on paper» and the liberals «the electronic» ones.

The fact is that IGC, in order to protect the service given to 13,000 subscribers, had to close the pages of EUSKAL HERRIA JOURNAL. Those visiting our website can find at the section called ¨Is a revolution brewing in the Basque Country? the links we have compiled about two dozens of Spanish «pacifist» counterinsurgent websites against HB and ETA, which «succeeded» in silencing EUSKAL HERRIA JOURNAL.

      13. Phoenix with no previous ashes, Herri Batasuna made on 27 July more than 40.000 people march along la Concha Promenade in San Sebastian. Of course, no Spanish paper published the easy picture taken from Igeldo or Ulia or a helicopter. And they lied to «prove» that HB has lost influence.
